Air ambulance called out to its own fundraising event after motorcyclist dies
A man has died following a tragic three motorcycle collision on the A386 in Hatherleigh.
The rider’s female passenger also suffered injuries and is currently in a ‘serious’ condition in hospital.
A police spokesperson said: “Another female also suffered minor injuries.”
There are currently no details of injuries to the rider of the third bike involved in the incident.
The motorcyclists were taking part in an annual fundraiser in aid of Devon Air Ambulance who had two air ambulances attend the incident.
Caroline Creer, fundraising and communications director for Devon Air Ambulance, said: “We were shocked and saddened to learn of the incident today, involving motorcyclists taking part in our annual Motorcycle Ride Out. Our thoughts are with everyone involved.”
A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 11.33am to a serious road traffic collision on the A386 near Hatherleigh. We allocated one rapid response vehicle, two air ambulances and three road ambulances and attended a number of casualties. We conveyed one patient by air ambulance to Derrirord Hospital ED in Plymouth and two patients in two road ambulances to Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital ED.”
