Annual Apple Day Fundraiser at Ripon Walled Garden

Annual Apple Day Fundraiser at Ripon Walled Garden

APPLE pressing, Morris dancing, biscuit decorating and a wide range of stalls will all be on the menu next month (October) when a Ripon charity hosts its annual “Apple Day”.

Being held between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, October 13 at Ripon Walled Garden, Apple Day is one of Ripon Community Link’s main fundraisers of the year.

The event – which is being attended by The Mayor of Ripon, Coun Pauline McHardy – will include local stalls selling gifts and produce, crafts, cake and of course, apples!

Attendees will get the opportunity to press their own apples and make their own juice, as well as visiting the Tea Room, which will be serving meals and cakes all afternoon. Morris dancers will also be performing at 1pm.

Last year’s event saw more than 400 people attending, and organisers are confident this year will prove even more popular with additional stallholders and plenty of children’s activities including animals, biscuit decorating, den building and more.

The event will present visitors with the chance to see the orchard’s original Victorian apple and pear trees and experience the beautiful scenery that the location has to offer.

Ripon Community Link Chief Executive Victoria Ashley said:

“Last year’s Apple Day was a huge success, helping us to raise vital funds for our charity and we are predicting that this year’s event, which is bigger, will be even better.

“Apple Day is one of our main fundraising events of the year, which helps us continue the important work that we do within the local community.

“We have been an integral and much-valued part of the Ripon community for 28 years, and, with the ongoing support of the local community, we will continue to be so for at least another 28 years.”

The charity is a leading provider of innovative day support services for people with learning difficulties and is based at two sites within the Ripon area: St Wilfrid’s Bungalow and Ripon Walled Garden.

Members enjoy learning about horticulture and retail in the gardens as well as catering in the Tea Room and fortnightly “pop up café”.

This is in addition to a varied programme of activities designed to support learning needs including numeracy, literacy, drama, music, swimming, arts and crafts and much more.
