Arsenal Legends prepare to take on Real Madrid Legends on Saturday 8 September
ARSENAL Legends are preparing for their match against Real Madrid Legends at Emirates Stadium on Saturday 8 September (kick-off at 2pm).
Robert Pires, Ray Parlour, David Seaman, Nigel Winterburn and Jeremie Aliadiere came together with Real Madrid Legend, Clarence Seedorf to prepare for the game which will see the two ‘Giants of Europe’ play for good causes.
The match, which sees net proceeds from ticket sales donated to The Arsenal Foundation for a ground breaking new football project, is the second leg of this charity fixture which ended 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu, on Sunday 3 June 2018:
In what promises to be a truly memorable match at Emirates Stadium during the September international break, a host of legends from both clubs have confirmed their participation in the 90-minute exhibition match.
With David O’Leary, alongside Assistant Coach Pat Rice at the helm, a number of Arsenal Legends including Robert Pires, David Seaman, Ray Parlour, Tomas Rosicky, Fredrik Ljungberg and Gilles Grimandi will put on the Arsenal shirt once again.
Arsenal Legend and Arsenal Foundation Ambassador Robert Pires – who will wear famous number seven shirt once again – said: “We are all very excited to be taking part in this match after a close match in Madrid earlier this year.”Playing in front of the Arsenal fans is always an honour. Playing alongside some of my old team mates is very emotional. We all had such a great time in Madrid, I’m pleased we’re bringing the game back home and raising funds for the great work of The Arsenal Foundation.”
Real Madrid Legends’ travelling squad will include Brazil’s World Cup winners, Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos who will feature alongside Raul and Luis Figo, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa.
Established in 2012, The Arsenal Foundation was founded during the club’s 125th anniversary to extend the club’s good work and reach a greater number of beneficiaries around the world. The Arsenal Foundation funds a variety of projects which use the Arsenal name and the popularity of the game to reach disadvantaged young people.
Funds raised from the Legends game will be used to fund our pioneering football coaching programme on pitches we built in partnership with Save the Children following the success of our Legends match against Milan Glorie in 2016.
The pioneering project will combine Arsenal’s expertise of delivering football programmes with Save the Children’s experience of working in the world’s toughest places. Together, we are co-creating an innovative football programme in Jordan and Indonesia to build children’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, helping them build the skills to withstand the shocks and stresses they may face in their lives.
