Award-winning charity Enthusiasm Trust shares it success

A charity has received an award for its impact on the local community and handed out trophies to the volunteers who give up their time for the group.

Enthusiasm Trust, based in Cotton Lane, picked up the Community Impact award at the East Midland’s Chamber’s Derbyshire Business Awards.

The organisation has been helping children from disadvantaged backgrounds reach their full potential since the charity was launched in 1992 and in the last 12 months has undergone a complete restructure.

To thank the tireless volunteers who give up so much time to run activities, such as a youth club, staff from Enthusiasm staged their own award ceremony with trophies, certificates and a meal.

Enthusiasm CEO April Allman-Hayhurst said:

“We couldn’t be prouder to have won a Community Impact award and it is so wonderful for the people who work really hard behind the scenes to have some recognition for the work that they do.

“We couldn’t make an impact in the community without our fabulous volunteers – many of whom were mentored at Enthusiasm themselves. So, it was a real pleasure to share our award success with them by giving them their own ceremony.”

Helen Lenton was presented with the Extra Mile Award for her dedication to the organisation and the young people who attend.

Helen, who has been associated with the charity for almost half her life, attended the Friday night youth club herself, some 20 years ago. Both her children have gone through the charity’s mentoring programme and Helen has given back to the organisation in every way she can.

From running weekly coffee mornings for mums to planning day trips during school holidays, volunteering at youth clubs and supporting fundraising events such as summer fairs, Helen is always willing to help.

Rosie Wills and Julia Lyczek received the Above and Beyond Award, for their hours of commitment during the Holiday Activities and Food programmes.

The Rising Star Award was presented to Honor Taylor for her personal development in the last 12 months, while all the youngsters who took part in Project Lockdown – activities set up to help those struggling with isolation and mental health issues – also received certificates for Achievement Through Adversity.

April added:

“We are all so proud to work for Enthusiasm and it is an honour to watch some of the young people we support go on to make great life choices and improve their lives.”

Children who attend Enthusiasm are primarily drawn from Osmaston, Allenton and Alvaston with smaller numbers from Chellaston, Sinfin and Shelton Lock.
