CORPORATE Partners play a key role in helping Leukaemia & Myeloma Research UK’s (LMRUK) fundraising campaign. They support the charity to invest in vital research and help raise awareness of its fight to eradicate blood cancer.  

The vital research LMRUK invests in would not be possible without the dedicated fundraising of companies and organisations, as well as individuals, across the UK – companies like Lister Wilder. 

Research grant named in honour of charity cycle team

A team of 55 employees from professional machinery and service provider, Lister Wilder are celebrating raising over £22,000 for LMRUK – and a research grant named in the company’s honour.

LMRUK are going to allocate the money the team raised in the recent London to Brighton Cycle Ride to a specialist research project, which aims to find a new or more effective treatment for blood cancer using stem cell therapies. 

Upon receiving the cheque for a total of £22,250, LMRUK Interim Operations Director, Dr Joanna Tilley, told the fundraisers:

“We would be honoured to call the grant, the Lister Wilder Research Grant.”

Among the team of cyclists presenting the cheque, was Group Service Director Neil Davis, who put LMRUK forward as one of the charities the company would support in 2022 after he was diagnosed with blood cancer. He knows just how important the charity’s research work is and wanted to do what he could to raise awareness with the help of his colleagues.

Neil said:

“I’m extremely passionate about supporting ongoing research into treatments for blood cancer. I personally take medication for my leukaemia which was only developed 20 years ago, so it proves that we need to be constantly supporting this research to ensure that more effective treatments, or even a possible cure, can be found.”

Neil’s colleague, Sales Director Phill Hughes, said that the company was grateful to everyone that had donated to the fundraising effort. He said:

“To have a grant named after us is a real honour and made all the hard work and time that the team spent training for this, even more worthwhile.” 

LMRUK funds research projects that are looking to advance understanding of how stem cells can be used to treat blood cancers, particularly through the use of stem cell transplants. The charity invites applications for the grant funding on an annual basis, which are then assessed by their Research Review Committee to ensure they are relevant and meet the charity’s objectives.

Dr Tilley said she was extremely grateful to the Lister Wilder Team for not only reaching but surpassing their ambitious fundraising target, which included a £1,500 donation from Thame-based machinery company, Kubota UK.

Dr Tilley said:

“Our work investing in potentially life-saving research to find more effective methods to treat blood cancer simply wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of our volunteers and fundraisers. They make a real impact in the fight against blood cancer – whether it’s raising £50 or £500, it all makes a difference.”
