BHF bring back charity partnership after pedalling to success

TWENTY-one charities will take part in the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) 2023 London to Brighton Bike Ride, after a successful trial last year raised over £2.3 million for good causes. 

Back for its 46^th year, the BHF’s flagship event will take place on Sunday 18^th June 2023.  

Around 10,000 cyclists of all abilities will take on the iconic 54-mile ride starting in Clapham Common, and through the beautiful countryside of Surrey and Sussex before crossing the finish line on the historic Brighton seafront.   

This June, charities including Mind, Alzheimer’s Society and WWF took part in a first-of-its-kind trial which saw 17 charities offer supporters a place in the BHF’s London to Brighton Bike Ride raising over £2.3 million, including £2 million for the BHF’s lifesaving research into heart and circulatory diseases. 

Ellie Mynes, London to Brighton Event Manager at the BHF, said: 

“We’re delighted to announce the charity partnership scheme will be back bigger and better for the BHF’s 2023 London to Brighton Bike Ride.  

“Last year we saw a great appetite for charities to take part in our iconic cycling event. Over 17 charities took part in our trial raising vital funds for great causes and helping us to build relationships across the charity sector.  

“We’re thrilled to welcome even more charities from across the UK, to join us in next year’s ride. We cannot wait for them to join us in 2023, cheering on all the cyclists as they heroically pedal the 54 miles from London to Brighton, all in the name of raising money for great causes and the BHF’s lifesaving research.”   

Diabetes UK, Tommy’s, Smile Train, SANDS and Child Bereavement UK are amongst the new charities taking part in the 2023 London to Brighton Bike Ride. Launched in 1976, the 54-mile ride is Europe’s oldest charity bike ride. Since its inception, riders have pedalled over 41 million miles between them and helped raise millions of pounds to fund the BHF’s research into heart and circulatory diseases. The BHF hope to help raise vital funds for charities across the UK, all whilst using the event to raise more than £2 million for its own lifesaving research to power the next scientific breakthrough. 

WWF will be one of the charities taking part for the second year running. Arron Trott, Events Fundraising Manager at WWF-UK said:

“The 2022 London to Brighton Bike Ride was a great day for all charities involved and we’re thrilled to be able to offer our WWF supporters a chance to take on this iconic ride again in 2023. The money raised will not only help fund BHF’s lifesaving science but will power our projects which restore nature, protect wildlife, and bring our world back to life.”
