Big Give raises £1.2m in support of charities tackling women and girl’s issues
BIG Give, the UK’s most successful charity match funding platform, concluded its Women & Girls campaign recently, successfully raising £1.2 million. The campaign received over 5,000 donations, allowing Big Give to generously support charities that are committed to serving women and girls across the UK.
The Women & Girls campaign garnered significant media attention throughout the week. Television and radio presenter Lisa Snowdon appeared on Loose Women to raise awareness for the participating charity Wellbeing of Women, speaking candidly about her struggles with menopause and the importance of women’s health education. As well, former BBC journalist and broadcaster Kate Silverton showed her support for the charity Home-Start, Richmond, Kingston & Hounslow in an op-ed for Hello! Magazine. Other charities that took part in this year’s campaign included Women’s Aid, SmartWorks, The Girl’s Network, Endometriosis UK, Women for Refugee Women, and the Malala Fund UK.
The campaign saw the public’s generosity multiplied as donations to the participating charities were matched by the Big Give’s funding ‘champions,’ effectively doubling the impact of each donation.
Supporters can continue to donate to women and girls focused charities like Wellbeing of Women and Home-Start Richmond, Kingston & Hounslow during the Big Give’s annual Christmas Challenge campaign, launching on 28th November. The campaign will support a vast range of charities working across a variety of issues including mental health, food poverty and homelessness. Participating charities include UNICEF UK, Magic Breakfast, Amber Foundation and Rainforest Trust.
Last year, the Christmas Challenge raised £28.5 million for 1,021 charities, receiving over 81,000 donations throughout the week of the campaign.
Alex Day, Managing Director of Big Give, said:
“We are pleased to announce that our second annual Women & Girls campaign has successfully raised £1.2m for over 130 charities. Women and Girls charities are often overlooked and underfunded despite providing vital support and resources for women and girls facing issues such as domestic abuse, gender inequality in the workplace and period poverty. Thanks to our generous donors and champions, we are making a significant impact on the lives of those affected by these adversities.”
