Big Give Women & Girls campaign raises record £2.2m
BIG Give, the UK’s most successful charity match funding platform, concluded its week-long Women & Girls campaign on the 17th of October, successfully raising £2.2 million which represents an 83% increase on 2023.
The campaign received over 9,300 donations, allowing Big Give to generously support 189 charities that are committed to serving women and girls across the UK and internationally.
The campaign saw the public’s generosity multiplied as donations to the participating charities were matched by the Big Give’s funding ‘champions,’ effectively doubling the impact of each donation. Match funds totalling £1.2 million were available for this campaign including from the Julia Rausing Trust which has pledged £2 million to support women and girls’ charities on the Big Give platform over the next two years.
Various charities participating in the campaign have celebrity supporters including Pipal Tree which is supported by Dame Joanna Lumley, My Sisters’ House CIO supported by Dame Julie Walters and Wellbeing of Women supported by Davina McCall, Penny Lancaster and Mariella Frostrup.
Example of some of the charities that have directly benefited from the campaign include the Sophie Hayes Foundation which wanted to raise £20,000 but in the end raised £32,459. The charity works with women survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking in the UK to rebuild and develop the skills, confidence and independence to help them achieve sustainable freedom. Funds from the campaign will enable the charity to reach over 250 survivors who are new to its transformative programme and hundreds more through its CREW Survivor Network.
Another example is The Girls’ Brigade England & Wales which had a target of £20,000 but raised £26,746. The charity, which has more than 450 community groups around the country open to 4-18-year-old girls, is focused on empowering and supporting its thousands of users. Funds from the campaign are to be used to refresh the programmes and materials that its groups use weekly, to ensure that they’re relevant to girls and young women today. Because of Covid and the cost of living crisis, the organisation and girls’ families have struggled to contribute to this key work.
James Reed CBE, Chair of Trustees for Big Give, said:
“I am delighted with the response we have had to this our third campaign dedicated to supporting women and girls’ charities. What it demonstrates is the strength of feeling and willingness people have to support organisations that are carrying out such valuable work for so many important causes.”
