Bloodwise appoints John Ormerod as Chair

Bloodwise, the UK’s leading blood cancer charity, is delighted to announce it has appointed John Ormerod as a trustee. John, who has extensive experience of non-executive roles across the private, public and charity sectors, will take up the position of Chair of the Board of Trustees at the end of September.

John studied physics at university and spent over  30 years with accounting firms Arthur Andersen, where he became UK Managing Partner, and Deloitte, as Senior Partner for the London Practice. Since then has had a number of non-executive positions. His roles have included: Non-Executive Director of ITV plc; Board member of Transport for London; Non-Executive Director of Gemalto NV and Constellium NV; and trustee of the Roundhouse Trust and the Design Museum.

John Ormerod said: “I am delighted to be joining a charity supported by people with such passion to make a difference for those affected by blood cancer. I hope my experience of leadership roles across different sectors can make a useful contribution to Bloodwise as it seeks to significantly increase its reach and impact.”

Jeremy Bird, Interim Chair of Bloodwise, said: “John brings extensive leadership experience and has a level of insight and knowledge that will help us flourish. The Board and executive team are really looking forward to working closely with him as we take our work across research, health information and policy to the next level.”

Bloodwise funds research to improve treatment and care for people living with all types of blood cancer – including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma – and provide anyone affected with information and support. Blood cancer is the fifth most common form of cancer and the third largest cause of cancer death in the UK.
