Businesses invited to join the Curiosity Collective and invest in future generations

WONDERSEEKERS, the independent children’s charity that runs the hugely popular Winchester Science Centre, is calling on local businesses to step up and become role models for future generations.

The charity is launching a brand new vital movement, the Curiosity Collective, a corporate parentships scheme where, for low effort, businesses will be able to see high rewards when it comes to supporting local children and the wider community. With a focus on empowering children to develop the skills and knowledge needed to use science to tackle environmental issues, companies in the Curiosity Collective will be able to demonstrate their commitment to the environment, work towards achieving their CSR goals and help the next generation have a better future.

A staggering 70% of children surveyed by Save the Children are worried about the world they will inherit. Wonderseekers uses science to engage children with the world in a fun and imaginative way, helping them understand and respond to these global issues. But the Charity’s work has just started. It is now inviting businesses to join the Curiosity Collective and to invest £1000 in the charity’s new educational science and nature experiences, with the goal of empowering children to take action against climate change and biodiversity loss.

Ben Ward, Chief Executive of Wonderseekers, said:

“With the support of local businesses, we will help every child to discover the wonder of science. Our aim is to empower children together, develop their self-confidence and resilience, and help them connect and participate in positive local action. We’re excited to hear from like-minded businesses who want to join us on our mission. It’s time to join the Curiosity Collective and make a difference.”

Members of the Curiosity Collective are passionate about creating a better future for children and the planet. Already part of the collective are acoustic specialists Ecophon, electrical engineering firm Parlex, a Johnson Electric company, Designs For Lighting, one of the leading independent lighting consultancies in the UK, and Nosy a creative agency specialising in ethical marketing solutions.

Shane Cryer from Ecophon said:

“Wonderseekers is a fantastic organisation. The Science Centre itself is just brilliant. It’s really important that we have spaces where children can come to learn, and feel at ease.”

Dominic Ward from Parlex, a Johnson Electric company, said:

“If you’re wanting a return on your investment, there is none better than investing in exciting young people in science and technology. You’re investing in all of our futures because young people are our future.”

Richard Jackson from Designs For Lighting said:

“We thought this was a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with an amazing local charity where we can offer our support to promote creative education for children. The collaboration also allows us to demonstrate how we take our corporate social responsibility seriously, with great support and information from Wonderseekers allowing us to demonstrate this.”

Matt Greg from Nosy said:

“Joining the Curiosity Collective is an exciting opportunity for us to demonstrate our values by taking action and contributing to a better future for children and for nature.”

The charity behind Winchester Science Centre has been focused on engaging young people in science since 1986. In October 2022, it changed its name to Wonderseekers to grow its impact beyond the Science Centre. Science engagement in the UK has typically focused on the science career pathway and is often aimed at children over the age of 11. By this point, many children already feel disconnected from science and regard it as ‘not for me’. Wonderseekers wants to change this. The Charity wants children to discover the wonder of science from an early age and use it to make sense of the world around them. By doing this, they’ll be equipped and empowered to make a positive change for their future and the future of the planet.
