Care Charity launches inspiring video this Learning Disability Week

SHARING a message of empowerment and challenging stereotypes, national social care charity, Community Integrated Care, has launched a new video as the care sector celebrates Learning Disability Week 2024 (Monday 17 – Sunday 23 June 2024).

Led annually by Mencap, Learning Disability Week aims to raise awareness about what life is like for people with a learning disability. This year’s theme focuses on the phrase “Do you see me?” – celebrating what people with learning disabilities bring to society and challenging the barriers they face.

Titled ‘Never Standing Still’, Community Integrated Care’s video challenges negative assumptions around what people with learning disabilities can achieve and inspires people to dream big.

From the story of Tauseef, who has campaigned for social care in Parliament, to Stephen hosting his own radio show, the film encompasses the charity’s commitment to empowering the people they support to live the Best Lives Possible.

Matt Price, Sports Inclusion Assistant at Community Integrated Care, features in the video alongside his wife, Elle. The pair, who have recently gotten married and are buying their first house together, were initially supported by the charity as part of its Inclusive Volunteering®️ Programme and now both have paid roles within the organisation.

Speaking about starring in the video, Matt said:

“It was fantastic to take part in the video and share mine and Elle’s achievements. I’m passionate about empowering other people with Learning Disabilities and Autism to have big dreams and ambitions too, so to be able to inspire others and spread that message on this scale is amazing.

“As we say in the video, ‘breaking down barriers’ and ‘never standing still’ are things that are so important when it comes to support. Having a great support team that encourages you to achieve your aspirations, and to keep dreaming even bigger, makes a huge difference. It can be life-changing.”
