Cash Converters’ cycling heroes raise £50,000 for Dreams Come True charity

FOLLOWING a gruelling 510-mile charity bike ride and a UK wide instore raffle, Cash Converters UK has raised £50,000 for the Dreams Come True charity – doubling their initial target of £25,000.

In total, the high street retailer has now raised £400k over the last 10 years for the top children’s charity.

In June Carl Murray (MD of Capital Cash, the largest franchisee of Cash Converters), Richard Addison (Rhyl Cash Converters franchisee owner) and Paul Graham (Capital Cash finance director) braved a notoriously tough cycle route from Mizen Head to Malin Head in Ireland to raise money for the good cause.

To support the cycling team in their fund-raising efforts, Cash Converters UK stores from around the country ran a raffle, selling tickets for £2 a time and giving customers the chance to win prizes.

Cash Converters held a special prize draw and cheque handover at their UK headquarters in Runcorn this week, with guest of honour, St Helen’s rugby league star Dominique Peyroux. The retailer is a chief sponsor of the club.

Peyroux picked six names of out a hat with each winner receiving a top 55” state of art flat-screen TV. Peyroux was joined by two of the cyclists Carl Murray and Richard Addison and Martin Neal Head of Challenges and Events at Dreams Come True.

Dreams Come True is a national children’s charity whose mission is to enrich the lives of children and young people living with serious medical conditions.

Each dream costs in the region of £2,000 to fulfil, so this recent fund-raising effort could help more than 20 seriously ill young people to achieve a dream.

The £50,000 donation is not the first time Cash Converters has raised money for Dreams Come True. Since partnering with the charity 10 years ago the retailer has raised more than £400,000 for the good cause.

The big-hearted trio completed a similar challenge in 2014, cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats and raised more than £80 000. They have also completed charity cycles to Paris and Oxford too.

Cash Converter’s Carl Murray, 55, who lives in Buckinghamshire told Charity Today:

“I am delighted we raised an amazing £50,000 for such a deserving charity. Our original target was to raise over £25,000 and we exceeded this by some distance with the help of the Cash Converter’s franchisees across the UK.  Dreams Come True is a wonderful charity that fulfils the dreams of terminally ill children and is a charity that is close to my heart.  We plan further adventures to raise funds too, so watch this space for our next challenge.”

Martin Neal at Dreams Come True, added:

“We are so grateful to Carl, Richard and Paul for taking on such a gruelling challenge. Cash Converters has been a key fundraiser for our charity for many years and we are always blown away with the major efforts made to raise funds.”

Tony Richardson, MD of Cash Converters said:

“I applaud our hero trio for taking on this mighty challenge. Also thanks to Saints rugby star Dominique Peyroux for picking the raffle winners.  Cash Converters is proud to support all our franchise owners in these wonderful efforts to support worthy causes in our store communities. Dreams Come True is a charity we hold very dear as it creates life-long memories for very special children and their families.”
