Cath Tyldesley launches Humphrey’s Lantern Walk with RMCH patients

ACTRESS Cath Tydesley met patients from Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to help officially launch Humphrey’s Lantern walk, a family-friendly sponsored walk in Heaton Park.

Taking place on Saturday 17th November, the walk is raising money to support projects which will enhance the experience of the 276,000 children and their families who access services at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital every year.

Cath visited Ward 78 at the hospital and surprised patients with a story-telling session, reading ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ to children on the ward. Cath met four-year-old HarleySheimerdine who is being treated on the ward after jumping from a climbing frame in the park and landing awkwardly, breaking his femur. Harley’s leg has been in traction for the last three weeks, and he is staying on Ward 78 of the hospital.

Harley has signed up to the sponsored walk with his siblings to fundraise for the hospital which cares for him.

Harley’s mum Susan said:

“Harley has received the very best of care since he was admitted to hospital, the nurses and doctors on the ward have been amazing. As a family, we wanted to give something back and say thank you to the hospital for the amazing work they do, so Humphrey’s Lantern Walk seemed like the perfect way for us to thank the staff for all their hard work.”

Cath told Charity Today:

“I’ve been a supporter of RMCH Charity for many years now, so it was exciting to start the countdown to this year’s Humphrey’s Lantern Walk! It was an honour to meet such an inspirational group of children who are so positive, despite spending lengthy times in hospital. The sponsored walk is a brilliant opportunity to have fun, whilst raising money for a very worthy cause. I would urge everyone to sign up!”

Angela Rowe, Community Fundraising Manager at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity adds:

“We were delighted to welcome Cath to the hospital today; our patients and parents loved meeting her, especially enjoying the story-time session. This year will be our second Humphrey’s Lantern Walk and is open to participants of all ages and abilities to join us for either a 2k or 4k walk, taking in the beautiful surroundings of Heaton Park. We hope as many people as possible can join us to raise money in support of patients at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.”
