Changing Lives 50K Your Way Challenge is back this May

Changing Lives 50K Your Way Challenge is back this MayTHERE’S one month to go until Changing Lives’ annual 50K Your Way challenge is back. This year, the charity is raising vital funds to support those experiencing Domestic abuse across the UK.

The 50K Your Way challenge offers a fun and accessible way to make a real difference. Participants are encouraged to walk, run, cycle, or complete any activity that gets them moving for a total distance of 50 kilometres throughout the month, raising vital funds to support survivors of domestic abuse.

Individuals or teams can participate, splitting the 50-kilometer goal amongst themselves. Every kilometre walked, run, or cycled brings participants closer to creating a safer future for victims of domestic abuse.

Abby Christie, Senior Fundraising Manager at Changing Lives, said:

“Sign up for 50K Your Way to help us support the 5,666 women and children we are currently helping across our life-changing front-line services and projects to flee domestic abuse and change their lives for the better.

“Sadly, a staggering 242 domestic abuse-related deaths were recorded between April 2022 and March 2023 according to the Domestic Abuse Commissioner. That translates to someone taking their life every four days and a murder by a partner or family member every three days. But by joining in with 50K Your Way, you can help to change that.

“The challenge is inclusive, fun and improves mental and physical wellbeing. You can take part solo or with a team of colleagues, family or friends. Sign up today – every kilometre helps provide life-changing support for those fleeing domestic abuse.”

Head of Service Laura McIntyre said:

“Changing Lives is a national charity and we work across lots of different sectors including people who have experienced quite a lot of abuse and trauma throughout their lives and can often develop sometimes some really unhelpful coping strategies or some survival strategies that on the surface, can look quite problematic.

“For us at Changing Lives, we tend to look beyond that behaviour and really try and think about what might be happening for those people and when we provide the support in a non-judgmental way to try and really understand somebody, nine times out of ten domestic abuse will be a disclosure.

“It’s really important for us to raise funds and awareness for victims and survivors of domestic abuse. So, if you can find time to reach your 50K Your Way goal by the end of May, that would be incredible and really help us at Changing Lives to raise awareness and raise important funds for domestic abuse causes.”
