Charity Commission publishes first quarterly release of casework and registration data

The Charity Commission has recently published its first quarterly release of casework and registration figures. The publication highlights the volume of the Commission’s investigations, compliance and registrations casework for the period July to September 2023.

The release covers key areas of the regulator’s work, including:

  1. registrations and register information
  2. regulatory concern cases
  3. statutory inquiries
  4. the ‘Revitalising Trusts’ programme

By publishing this information on a quarterly basis, the Commission aims to help trustees, stakeholders and the wider public better understand the breadth of work it does in regulating and registering charities in England and Wales.

Delivering an address to the Commission’s Annual Public Meeting today, Helen Stephenson, CEO, said:

“Today, we’re publishing the first of a new series of quarterly releases of data on our regulatory and compliance case work. This stride towards greater transparency will, I hope, demonstrate both how extensive our regulatory casework is, and provide a flavour of its variety and impact. The data we are releasing is not brand new – they are figures we report on yearly in our annual report. But I hope in releasing data quarterly, we offer a more immediate opportunity for those interested in our work to see what we’re doing and to identify trends and themes.”
