Charity working to tackle loneliness receives the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

B:friend, a charity working to tackle loneliness and social isolation amongst older neighbours in South Yorkshire and NE Derbyshire since 2017, recently received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The Award, also known as the MBE for Voluntary Groups, was presented to the charity by the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Professor Dame Hilary Chapman DBE, at the b:friend Thurnscoe Social Club last week.

B:friend CEO Colette Bunker and Programmes Manager Jenny Pitman were joined by Cllr Wendy Cain, the Dearne Area Team and b:friend volunteer, Sarah.

B:friend said:

“It is an amazing honour to receive the QAVS presented by the Lord Lieutenant. She had a chance to meet some of our older neighbours and volunteers and have fun at the Social Club – and even won the quiz!

“This award is for all of our fantastic volunteers. We couldn’t do this without them and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of them.”
