Children from Raploch to take part in Edinburgh Fringe concert
CHILDREN and young people from Raploch will showcase their musical skills tonight at a special one-off concert as part of the Edinburgh Fringe.
The Big Noise Raploch Rinconada Chamber Orchestra will perform in the historic Old Saint Paul’s Church on Jeffrey Street this evening, at 7pm, with tickets for the unique event starting at just £10.
The orchestra is made up of 13 to 19-year-olds from the Big Noise programme in Raploch, Stirling, which is delivered by the charity Sistema Scotland.
This concert in Edinburgh will fuse classical and pop music, alongside some show-stopping pieces such as Fuga Con Pajarillo and an enchanting Robert Burns melody.
Big Noise helps children develop vital life skills such as confidence, resilience, creativity, and aspiration, while also strengthening community ties through music and nurturing relationships.
Independent expert studies of the model have found it enhances skills in some of Scotland’s most disadvantaged areas, including listening, problem-solving, and concentration, as well as increasing participants’ self-esteem, their sense of belonging, and happiness.
Big Noise Raploch launched in 2008 and now works with around 500 children and their families every week, supporting young people to reach their full potential.
Tickets for the concert are available on the Fringe website at https://tickets.edfringe.com/
The performance follows an earlier event in the day at the Festival of Politics in the Scottish Parliament featuring Gustavo Dudamel, one of the world’s foremost music conductors, who is an alumnus of El Sistema – the Venezuelan model which Sistema Scotland is based on.
Vicky Williams, head of centre at Big Noise Raploch and Fallin, said:
“This is an amazing opportunity for members of our young orchestra from Raploch to showcase their extraordinary talent on the Fringe stage.
“They are looking forward to performing in Old Saint Paul’s, and it promises to be a hugely entertaining night for festival-goers.
“Raploch was our very first programme when we started 15 years ago, and we’re incredibly proud of all the young people and their achievements.
“As well as being a fun evening, concerts like this give us the opportunity to reflect on the hugely positive impact Big Noise has – helping children reach their full potential by equipping them with vital life skills and enhancing their academic skills through our nurturing programme.”
