Children’s Aid donates £4000 worth of iPads to Quarriers
Quarriers, one of Scotland’s leading social care charities, has been gifted 10 iPads worth around £4000 from charity Children’s Aid to be used in two of its vital services.
Children’s Aid Trustee, Tom Cromar and David Jaffe, Joint Chairman visited Quarriers’ Family Resource Centre, Ruchazie to hand over the iPads and meet children, young people and parents who are supported by the charity to help them realise their potential.
Five of the iPads will be used by the ‘Growing Together’ group at Quarriers’ Ruchazie Nursery which focuses on child development, bonding and attachment between parents and little ones.
iPads can be used by Quarriers to demonstrate the positive affection between new parents and their baby as quite often post-natal mothers do not recognise these tender moments. Videos of these precious milestones can be replayed and photos can be kept as mementos for new mothers, reminding them of positive milestones, building their confidence as new parents.
The additional iPads are being gifted to Quarriers’ Kinship Care Service based at Barlanark Family Support Service.
Quarriers recognises that young people are increasingly more comfortable communicating through iPads and tablets, often struggling to articulate their feelings face-to-face. By capturing how they feel on an iPad, this stops young people from bottling up their emotions. This also opens up the possibility of starting up a dialogue with teenagers about how they are coping, helping Quarriers staff to provide more tailored support to them – vital for their mental health.
Alice Harper, Chief Executive of Quarriers said: “We are incredibly grateful to Tom Cromar, David Jaffe and everyone at Children’s Aid for their generosity. In the 21st century technology is key and giving people supported by Quarriers the chance to use these iPads opens up many opportunities.
“It allows young people to be clued up on the technology they need to master in order to flourish in the world as well as providing an outlet for their emotions. It also means new mothers can capture moments of bonding with their little ones that they can treasure forever and take confidence in their parenting abilities.”
David Jaffe, Joint Chairman and Trustee of Children’s Aid said: “Children’s Aid are pleased to be associated with Quarriers and always try to help out where possible when funding is required for any project that involves children and youngsters under the age of 16. Having had the opportunity to view for ourselves the benefit of the iPads we donated recently, it looks as though they will be of great value in many different respects, and we are delighted to have been in a position to provide them.”
