Dare to Make a Difference: Join LMRUK this year in Fighting Blood Cancer

Is taking to the skies for an epic skydive on your bucket list? Or is this the year that you dust off your running shoes and prepare for an endurance challenge?

Blood cancer research charity, Leukaemia & Myeloma Research UK (LMRUK) is encouraging people to step outside of their comfort zones and try their hand at something new while raising money for a good cause.

Charities like LMRUK rely heavily on support from fundraisers so that they can continue their vital work. An average of 33% of LMRUK’s funding comes from individual donations and fundraising events, highlighting the reliance on the generosity of supporters.

Blood cancer is the 5^th most common type of cancer in the UK and the country’s 3^rd biggest cancer killer, so it’s never been more important to ensure that people are aware of the common signs and symptoms to look out for to encourage earlier diagnosis and treatment.

LMRUK’s most recent fundraiser, Francis Lea from Crawley, has entered the 10k at Dorney Lakes, near Windsor, on 10^th March and is gathering sponsorship in aid of the charity and in memory of his dad, Colin.

Colin died just a few days after he was diagnosed with Leukaemia, partway through a family holiday at Selsay. Francis said:

“Dad was diagnosed just five days before he passed away. He was absolutely fine and put the odd ache and pain down to the 10 – 12 hour shifts he was doing as a Postman.

“I knew nothing about Leukaemia until he died, so I’m keen to raise awareness of the different types of blood cancer as well as funds to support the charity.”

A donation of £5 can be used to help LMRUK fund crucial blood cancer research through its annual grant scheme. Last year, the charity awarded two grants worth a total of £57,500 to support crucial new research into Leukaemia and Myeloma.
