Defence Medical Welfare Service launch their latest Impact Report

THE Defence Medical Welfare Service have published their latest Impact Report presenting their facts & figures, service overview, insights and case studies of 2017/2018.

It is a year of celebrations for the charity, as 2018 marks DMWS’s 75th anniversary.

Throughout their history, they’ve always responded to the challenges and opportunities they have faced, which has made them the organisation they are today: a highly responsive and professional medical welfare service.

During World War 2, DMWS were tasked to ‘provide a service aiding the sick and wounded at home and in the field’ to improve wellbeing and deliver capability. Since 1943 they have deployed to every major conflict and have received many prestigious awards for their service. To this day their Welfare Officers play a key role in supporting patients and their families during times of physical or mental ill health.

DMWS aims to encourage a positive approach to treatment, improve recovery, facilitate an earlier return to work and reduce the risk of readmission.

As they move forward, their focus is to diversify even further, with the vision to provide their welfare support to all frontline services when they are in the patient care pathway.
