Famous faces out in force for NSPCC fundraiser
One of the most unique charity fundraisers in London’s social calendar took place down by the river on Sunday.
The NSPCC’s ‘Evening at the River Café’ is always a magnet for celebrities and many of the capital’s most influential people from the worlds of food, fashion, art, design and business, and this year was no exception.
The event was organised by the NSPCC’s Rebuilding Childhoods Board, chaired by Diala Khlat, and hosted by River Café owner and chef, Ruth Rogers, with TV star and children’s author David Williams as master of ceremonies.
Also in attendance among the 130 guests were David Furnish, models Elizabeth Hurley and Eva Herzigova, explorer and TV star Ben Fogle, artist Jonathan Yeo, photographer Mary McCartney and Italian TV chef Giorgio Locatelli.
In total more than a million pounds was raised on the night for the NSPCC through donations and a grand auction of art and experiences.
The money will be used by the charity to help the tens of thousands of children and teenagers who have experienced sexual abuse, and to address the urgent need to keep children safe online.
In particular the funds will support ‘Letting the Future In’, a therapeutic programme available in NSPCC service centres around the country that aids recovery by encouraging young people to explore their thoughts and feelings through acting, writing, storytelling and art.
Donations will also go towards the NSPCC’s online safety projects to help change laws and regulations that will safeguard all children online.
Peter Wanless, CEO of the NSPCC said:
“An Evening at the River Café is always a special night with so many influencers coming together with the shared objective of raising money for the NSPCC and the work we are doing to help children recover from the effects of sexual abuse and to keep them safe online.”
David Williams added: “I was thrilled to be involved in Sunday’s festivities. The work the NSPCC does in helping children who need it most is truly admirable and I was delighted to be part of this fabulous event surrounded by great food, wine, art and company at the best restaurant in the world!”
