Fire and rescue signs Memorandum of Understanding with the Salvation Army

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has signed an official Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Salvation Army.

This MOU between the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and the Salvation Army is for Welfare Support At Large Protracted Emergency Incidents.

The document was signed at SFRS HQ in Cambuslang by Interim Director of Service Delivery David Farries and Salvation Army Territorial (National) Emergency Response Officer, Adrian Clee and witnessed by Glasgow-based Salvation Army Response Officer John Scott.

The Salvation Army is a charitable organisation and part of its mission is to provide voluntary welfare support to the emergency services during operational incidents. This work includes the provision of refreshments (hot/cold food and drink) as well as providing practical and emotional support at large protracted incidents.

The MOU enhances the support available at operational incidents where welfare pods and welfare officers may be requested and where post-incident support may also be valuable alongside SFRS arrangements.

Assistant Chief Officer David Farries said:

“The Salvation Army make themselves available to us 24 hours a day and provides valued support to our firefighters all across the country when it’s needed most. Their support helps our firefighters to perform their jobs as they work to keep people in our communities safe. This MOU is a further commitment to the safety, support and welfare of our firefighters.”

Salvation Army Territorial (National) Emergency Response Officer, Adrian Clee said:

“The Salvation Army has a long-standing tradition of providing welfare support for firefighters at major incidents in Scotland and across the UK. This new agreement cements the strong relationship between ourselves and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and confirms our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality welfare support for firefighters across Scotland, as they seek to protect and serve their local communities.”
