RECENTLY The Children’s Hospital Charity launched its annual Christmas fundraiser, Theo and Friend’s Christmas Jumper Day, this year with Lucy Bronze. Together they have invited supporters to wear their favourite festive jumpers on Friday 13th December to raise vital funds for Sheffield Children’s.

Lucy Bronze’s career has seen her play for some of the biggest clubs in the world, lift the UEFA European Women’s Championship trophy with the Lionesses, and win the Champions League five times. She has recently transferred to WSL Chelsea and was named the 20th-best female player in the world at the Ballon d’Or Awards in October.

Lucy has kindly provided her star power to help encourage fans to support The Children’s Hospital Charity this Christmas. Lucy visited Sheffield Children’s on Christmas Eve in 2023 and met some of the children needing care over the festive period. Lucy saw firsthand how staff went above and beyond to support patients and families, which inspired her to get more involved with the Charity.

Lucy said:

“Last Christmas I really got a sense of how the hospital goes above and beyond to make the festive time as special as possible for patients that stay there.”

Theo and Friends’ Christmas Jumper Day with Lucy Bronze is a day that brings the community together to raise vital funds. With the simple ask of wearing their favourite festive jumper or outfit, supporters can come together with their school, sports club, workplace, community groups, or their family and friends to make a difference to Sheffield Children’s.

Lucy’s support will help The Children’s Hospital Charity continue providing enhancements that are over and above the NHS provision for Sheffield Children’s.

The charity supports specialist treatment from head to toe, by funding life-saving equipment, new facilities, a comfortable environment and vital research, which changes paediatric care for thousands of children from across the world.

Sheffield Children’s is one of just three standalone specialist children’s hospitals in the UK, providing the best possible care for children all over Yorkshire, the UK and beyond.

In September Lucy celebrated her Chelsea debut by raffling off her match-worn shirt in support of Sheffield Children’s. The raffle raised over £3,000 and helped to establish Lucy’s special relationship with The Children’s Hospital Charity.

Community Fundraising Manager at The Children’s Hospital Charity, Charlotte Wilson said:

“The Charity is so grateful to Lucy Bronze for supporting Theo and Friends’ Christmas Jumper Day. Lucy is a hero of women’s sports, and her involvement will help us take this fundraiser to more people than ever before. If each supporter that wears a Christmas Jumper donates just £2 each, together they will help to change lives at Sheffield Children’s.”

Theo and Friends’ Christmas Jumper Day with Lucy Bronze takes place on Friday 13th December, or can be celebrated on a date of your choice.
