Four wheels good for Tonyrefail club’s fundraising D-Day tour
A classic car tour of Northern France, to tie in with the 80th anniversary of D-Day, will take place in April 2024, while raising funds for Armed Forces charity Help for Heroes.
The event, organised by Tonyrefail-based European Classic Touring Club (ECTC), is open to any four-wheel vehicle of any age – classic or modern – and organisers provide an event doctor, support team of mechanics, and experienced officials to ensure participants have an enjoyable and unforgettable time.
The event runs from 18-21 April 2024, leaving from Calais and visiting, among other places, the Thiepval Museum; Amiens; Honfleur; Pegasus Bridge; and Arromanches-les-Bains, in Normandy. A donation will be made to Help for Heroes from each entry fee.
ECTC’s route co-ordinator, Ian Howells, explained:
“We have been running similar tours for more than 10 years across the UK and Europe. For 2024 we decided to honour the fallen by running the D-Day Tour to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day.
“In previous years we have supported the Poppy Appeal and the Prince Philip Trust, and we thought it fitting to choose the Help for Heroes charity for this tour.”
Help for Heroes Area Fundraising Manager, Rhys Edwards, added:
“Normandy will be receiving a lot of visitors next year for the 80th anniversary, but not many will be making the trip in classic vehicles, so this will be quite the spectacle.
“We’re really grateful to the team at ECTC for making a donation, which will enable us to support our modern-day veterans while we recall and commemorate the bravery of our military personnel from 80 years ago.”
Help for Heroes champions the Armed Forces community and helps them live well after service. The charity helps them, and their families, to recover and get on with their lives. It has already supported more than 30,000 people and won’t stop until every veteran gets the support they deserve.
The charity supports veterans, and their families, from any branch of the UK military – regulars or reserves – irrespective of length or place of service, and locally embedded civilians (and their families) who worked alongside our Armed Forces.
