Go Bright campaign launches for 2024

Go Bright campaign launches for 2024

THIS March, Muscular Dystrophy UK, the leading charity for more than 110,000 people in the UK living with one of over 60 muscle wasting and weakening conditions, is calling for people to take part in its annual Go Bright fundraising campaign to help shine a light on muscular dystrophy and raise funds to support vital research.

Taking place on Friday 1 March, ‘Go Bright’ is in its seventh year and challenges people of all ages to make a real impact by wearing their boldest, brightest outfits for the day. The 2024 campaign is being supported by Content Creator and Blogger, Sophie Bradbury-Cox, who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and uses her platforms to inspire others to be proud of who they are.

From swapping school uniforms for something bright to wearing one bright thing at work or a full fancy dress at home, being part of ‘Go Bright’ will help increase awareness of muscular dystrophy and raise much-needed funds to help the charity fund groundbreaking research and life-changing support.

Sophie Bradbury-Cox, 35, is getting behind Go Bright this year to support Muscular Dystrophy UK. Sophie, known as ‘fashionbellee‘ on Instagram, has SMA and describes herself as a disabled, colour-obsessed mum, who loves fashion, travel and Disney.

Explaining why she’s planning to Go Bright on 1 March, Sophie said:

“I love anything colourful, so I’m excited to support Muscular Dystrophy UK’s Go Bright campaign, which will also help to raise awareness for such an important cause. I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 3, which makes my muscles weaker and, as I can’t walk or stand, I use an electric wheelchair. But this doesn’t stop me from enjoying life with my husband and young daughter, Zyra, and I focus on making everyday life as fun as it can be.

“Muscular Dystrophy UK does so much to support people like me, as well as funding potentially life-changing research. So, whether it’s at work, school, at home, or in your local community, please join me and Go Bright on 1 March to help raise funds and awareness for muscular dystrophy.”

It’s free to sign up to Go Bright and donating just £10 can help provide alert cards for people living with muscle wasting conditions, so information about their healthcare needs is available in a medical emergency. Or Go Bright with friends, family or colleagues and fundraise as a group – £180 could help fund laboratory equipment to enable researchers to investigate new treatments for people living with muscular dystrophy, while £300 could help provide three days of helpline support.

Susanne Driffield, Regional Development Manager at Muscular Dystrophy said:

“Go Bright is a great opportunity for communities to come together and do something fun while raising vital funds and awareness for muscle-wasting conditions. We’re so grateful to Sophie for getting involved this year and look forward to seeing her bright outfit on 1 March! Since the campaign launched in 2018, Go Bright has raised nearly £200k and helped to fund essential research work. This is only possible thanks to everyone’s ongoing generosity and support, so thank you.”
