Hospice Care Week: Special video celebrates hospice supporters

Hospice Care Week: Special video celebrates hospice supportersTo mark Hospice Care Week, local children’s hospice charity, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices have created a special video to shine a light on their workforce who make their vital care possible.

The week, led by national charity Hospice UK, aims to highlight the importance of hospice care across the country. This year’s theme is ‘We are hospice care’, focusing on the amazing workforce that comes together to help support families.

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices supports babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families, across Surrey, south-west London and north-west London from their Guildford hospice, Christopher’s, and their Outreach, Therapies and Family Support Centre, Shooting Star House, in Hampton.

The charity supports 700 families who have a life-limited child, or whose child has died, with a wide breadth of services available to the whole family. It costs them £10 million a year to run with just 30% of their funding coming from the government.

Paul Farthing, Chief Executive of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices said:

“During Hospice Care Week, it’s great to celebrate how every person and each role makes our outstanding care possible. From our care team providing highly specialist support; our soft services team keeping our buildings clean and families and staff well fed; our corporate teams that support every team, to our fundraisers who work tirelessly to raise money so we can continue to be there for families and our vast number of volunteers who offer their time and expertise. None of what we do could be possible without our incredible workforce.”

In the run-up to the week, the charity has been welcoming a number of local authority councillors and general election candidates to see first-hand the services they provide, and to raise awareness of the importance of continued support from authorities across their catchment and from those in the community.

During Hospice Care Week, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices are asking their supporters to contact their local councillor to ask if they know about their work and to share their video to help spread awareness of Hospice Care Week and the work they do.
