Join Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice for the last party of the summer

GREENWICH & Bexley Community Hospice invites the community to join their Colour Run Party on Sunday, 24th September, at Danson Park, Bexleyheath.

This colourful 5k fundraising event features four colour stations, where runners are covered in powdered paint as they pass. This is followed by a huge colour party at the end, where everyone gets to throw paint. Participants are welcome to walk or run the course. Nearly 800 runners signed up for the Colour Run Party last year and smashed the hospice’s fundraising target, helping to raise over £15,000. The money raised allows the hospice to continue supporting patients living with terminal illnesses in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and London Borough of Bexley and their families.

Someone who will be supporting the hospice at this year’s event is Tracey Raggat. Tracey will be taking part with her husband and will be running in memory of her dad, Graham, who came under the care of the hospice in late 2021 and passed away in February 2022.

“Dad was larger than life, loved a joke, laughing and having fun. He loved golf and was a past captain at Shooters Hill Golf Club. He was a big reader, a huge Batman fan, and a Charlton FC supporter.

“When he was referred to the hospice, they came and talked to the family and made sure that everything was put in place for him to be comfortable and to support him to die at home. They were so helpful, and I was able to advocate for him, they listened and were really accommodating when we talked about what he needed and what his and my mum’s wishes were.

“Dad loved colour! If there were ever a choice between wearing a plain shirt or a bright one, he’d always be bright! So this is a really fitting way to honour his memory.

“We may be walking the 5k depending on my knee, but even if I have to crawl, we will raise money for these angels. They took the most amazing care of Dad and were there when we really needed them; giving us the opportunity to have Dad stay at home but still receive the care he did was something that meant the world to our family. The nursing staff are just amazing. Nothing is too much bother for them.”

The hospice would also like to thank Tracey’s company, Europa Worldwide Group, who are supporting her fundraising and have committed to matching the value that she raises for the hospice under their 5050 scheme.
