Leonor Stjepic joins Montessori St Nicholas as Chief Executive Officer

MONTESSORI St Nicholas, the UK’s leading Montessori charity, is delighted to announce the appointment of Leonor Stjepic as its new Chief Executive Officer.

The appointment comes at an exciting time for the charity which recently moved to its new home in St John’s Wood, London.

An award-winning charity entrepreneur, Leonor’s career has spanned both the private and charity sector. Since 2007, Leonor has been the CEO of RAFT – an award-winning medical research charity.

During her time at RAFT, the organisation became the first UK charity to create an Enterprise Investment Scheme company and the model is widely praised as a case study in how to de-risk social investment. Leonor is also the Chair of London Fire Brigade Enterprises and was previously CEO of Smart Matrix Ltd. In 2016, the ACQ5 Global Awards named her as ‘UK Gamechanger of the Year’ and a year later, Leonor was named as the ‘Most Innovative CEO in the Not-For-Profit Sector’ by Business Worldwide.

Speaking about her appointment, Leonor, said: “I am looking forward to working with the team at Montessori St Nicholas to increase the awareness of the values, and the value, of a Montessori early years education.

“Next year will be the 100th anniversary of Maria Montessori’s visit to London and we are planning a whole range of charitable activities that will allow Montessori St Nicholas to have further impact and bring about social change. It is an exciting time to be the new CEO of the organisation.”

Kevin Coyne, Chairman of the Trustees, said: “We are delighted to welcome Leonor as our new Chief Executive Officer. Leonor comes with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm. She has a superb vision for Montessori St Nicholas and joins us at an exciting but challenging time. We look forward to working with her in the months and years ahead.”

Leonor will take up the role in mid-June and will replace Dr. Stephen Tommis who leaves after three successful years.

Chairman Kevin, paid tribute to Dr. Tommis, explaining: “During his time as CEO, much has been achieved and the whole organisation has appreciated everything he has done.

“This has included re-structuring of the charity and the implementation of robust policies that have ensured greater transparency and efficiency. Stephen has also overseen the planning and purchase of our new building at Marlborough House in St John’s Wood.”
