Local charity commits to feeding 450 people this Christmas

This Christmas, West Lothian-based charitable organisation, The Larder, has committed to supporting 450 individuals experiencing food insecurity this winter with a tasty, nutritious, home-made, three-course Christmas Dinner.

In West Lothian alone, over 4,000 people are experiencing food insecurity, a number increasing each day with the cost-of-living crisis.

The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately affected those on the lowest incomes. These people had not yet recovered financially before being thrown into further despair and destitution by the Cost-of-Living Crisis. These are just some of the things which The Larder hears on a daily basis:

“During the lockdown, we were not allowed to go out, now we are but can’t afford to, we can’t even afford to stay in. I fear for my future.”

“I have four children and never have enough food to get myself through the week. I eat once a day to ensure my children eat. We just can’t get out of the rut we have found ourselves in. It’s pay bills and rent, OR buy food.”

“Having this help again this Christmas, on top of the weekly help is extremely appreciated and is a massive help to my family. Christmas is a huge worry for me. This year as debts have mounted and the cost of living is taking its toll.”

To offer this support, The Larder can’t do it alone. They are reaching out to their community and beyond via their Christmas Meal Appeal
