Muscular Dystrophy UK Earns PIF TICK Accreditation

MUSCULAR Dystrophy UK has been awarded the PIF TICK – the UK’s only assessed quality mark for print and online health and care information.

Muscular Dystrophy UK, the leading charity for more than 110,000 children and adults in the UK living with one of over 60 muscle wasting and weakening conditions, had to undergo an assessment showing it met 10 key criteria to become a ‘trusted information creator’.

The PIF Tick shows the charity’s health information has been through a professional and robust creation and review process. This includes evidence sources, digital and health inequalities, accessible content and design, feedback and dissemination processes, and measuring impact.

Providing assurance that supporters are reading, watching, or listening to current content that is evidence-based, understandable, jargon-free and produced to the best possible standard.

Neeru Naik, Deputy Director of Care, Campaigns and Support at Muscular Dystrophy UK said:

“At Muscular Dystrophy UK we work with a network of reliable sources including specialist neuromuscular clinicians to help communicate information to our muscle wasting and weakening community. The PIF tick is a quality mark that certifies our information showing it is reliable and trustworthy.

“We want to create excellent resources to inform and empower people with muscle wasting and weakening conditions. We realise that good quality information can help people make informed decisions about their health and care.”

Muscular Dystrophy UK will use the accreditation to ensure trusted information features on the conditions and health sections on the charity’s website. The charity has begun a review process of all materials including condition factsheets and alert cards.

The PIF TICK, launched in May 2020 is run by the non-profit Patient Information Forum (PIF). In July 2021, a public website, piftick.org.uk, was launched to raise awareness of PIF TICK accredited members and help people find trusted health information. The site also includes guides on topics including spotting false health information and understanding evidence.

PIF TICK manager Dan Wills said:

“We are thrilled to welcome Muscular Dystrophy UK to our ever-growing community of accredited PIF TICK members. Accurate, accessible, evidence-based information is key to increasing patient empowerment and improving health outcomes.”
