Muslim Aid joins boxer Hamza Uddin to combat youth offending and knife crime

LEADING UK charity, Muslim Aid, has announced a significant increase in its aid activities within the UK for 2024, with a strong focus on addressing pressing social issues such as homelessness, knife crime, and refugee support.

To amplify its efforts in tackling youth offences, Muslim Aid has announced the appointment of professional boxer Hamza Uddin as the charity’s new brand ambassador and partner with Inspired Capital Sports – ICS. Hamza Uddin, a rising star in the boxing world, brings not only his athletic prowess but also a personal commitment to making a positive difference in the community. As a National Champion and International Gold medallist, Uddin is an inspiring figure, particularly for young people, and will work with Muslim Aid to raise awareness around knife crime and provide positive alternatives for youth at risk of violence.

Riz Khan, founder & CEO of Inspired Capital Sport stated:

“Muslim Aid and Inspire Capital Sports have partnered to drive meaningful change through sports and education. The partnership focuses on creating opportunities for underserved communities through bursaries, helping individuals achieve their potential. Additionally, the initiative supports professional athletes by offering sponsorship and brand ambassador programs, ensuring they thrive in their careers and contribute to positive community development.”

Hamza Uddin will be working with community groups, schools, and local authorities across the UK to promote programs that offer mentorship, sports opportunities, and guidance for at-risk youth. The partnership aims to channel the power of sport and positive role models to help combat the rise in gang & knife-related violence, particularly in urban areas.

Hamza Uddin shared his enthusiasm for the role:

“I’m honoured to partner with Muslim Aid and support their incredible work in tackling knife crime. Growing up, I saw firsthand how important it is to have the right support and positive influences. Boxing taught me discipline, respect, and the value of hard work. I hope to inspire young people to choose a different path, and with Muslim Aid, we can help make our streets safer.”

Muslim Aid’s successful expansion of activities and projects in the UK also includes working with key partners in collaboration such as local authorities, MPs, other faith organisations, The Felix Project, Help the Homeless Leicester, Breaking the Cycle, and the NHS, along with numerous community-led programs. The charity has already committed substantial funding towards projects that will benefit thousands of individuals in need across the UK, including street homeless, families affected by the cost-of-living crisis, refugees & asylum seekers, and those impacted by the rise in knife crime.

Khalid Javid, CEO of Muslim Aid, commented:

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Hamza Uddin as our Brand Ambassador in this critical effort to tackle knife crime in the UK. Hamza’s dedication both in and outside the ring makes him an exemplary role model for young people. By joining forces with him, we want to make individuals aware there are alternatives to violence, and through the right guidance and support, we can build stronger, safer communities.”

Muslim Aid’s UK aid strategy reflects a growing need for home-based support, with more vulnerable groups requiring assistance due to economic challenges, housing instability, and rising crime rates. The charity is committed to addressing these issues through collaborative efforts with local organisations and spearheading grassroots initiatives.
