New programme to help deliver inclusive financial education to thousands of families
A new fully funded educational initiative has been launched aimed at supporting children and families with diverse needs to talk and learn about money.
The partnership – Love Learning Together – between Campaign for Learning and Anna Freud National will deliver a targeted financial education programme to practitioners working with young children and their families who are neurodiverse.
It comes as part of a £1.1 million grant funded by The Money and Pensions Service which tests the scaling up of projects that deliver financial education training to teachers and practitioners.
Juliette Collier, National Director at Campaign for Learning, said:
“We’re delighted to launch this innovative and much-needed programme to support families across the UK. We will train 800 practitioners and develop an online, multi-media toolkit that is tailored to support young children with specific learning needs.
“We’ve seen over the last few years how the cost-of-living crisis has impacted us all, but particularly those who are most vulnerable. Family education and access to local services is essential in providing people with the right tools and understanding to mitigate financial shocks.”
Fully funded workshops are running throughout the autumn on how to help children with neurodiversity and additional support needs learn about money. They offer a new approach for families and children with diverse needs, including autism spectrum disorders and social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Aimed at practitioners, the workshops are open to anyone working with families and children, such as teachers and teaching assistants, specialists in local authorities, early years practitioners in nurseries, schools or communities, and families, parents and adult learning staff.
Abi Miranda, Head of Early Years and Prevention at Anna Freud, said:
“The rise in cost of living is affecting all of us particularly families with children and young people. This project between the Campaign for Learning and Anna Freud will work to support financial well-being and prevent cycles of poor mental health from developing during the earliest years of a child’s life.
“The activities and resources will take into account the diverse needs of families and practitioners from a range of different backgrounds. Anna Freud as a mental health charity is committed to building the mental health of the next generation through projects like this.”
