A Bath-based graphic designer has reinterpreted the classic NHS logo in an effort to raise money for a number of charities.

Designer Carl Godfrey launched the project that simply involves selling pin badges with “NH-YES” printed on them.

The enamel badges are intended to be worn to show people’s support for and appreciation of the NHS, triggered by celebrations around the free health service’s 70th birthday.

“I think everyone is proud of the NHS and somehow has a connection to it, whether that be through a relative who works day and night for us, or as a patient who uses its services,” he says.

“But I think we don’t appreciate how fortunate we are. Having amazing healthcare free at the point of service is quite remarkable and something worth fighting for.

“For all the negative press it receives, we need to counter it with all the positive, life-saving stories it achieves and the exceptional staff who keep it going under ever-growing pressures.”

The badges cost £4 each, and all proceeds go towards NHS Charities Together, a charity group that splits donations equally over 130 smaller charities UK-wide.

Mr Godfrey was inspired to start the project having used the NHS services regularly over the last few months.

“I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease earlier this year, so I’ve recently been using the NHS more than I’d like to,” he says. “I’ll more than likely be using its services for the rest of my life. And every time I use it, I’m thankful for the care, generosity and support of the staff that make it up.”

The badges can be purchased online via the NH-Yes website.
