Pershore residents, set to share £3 million prize, are lifeline to missing people

PLAYERS of People’s Postcode Lottery in Pershore will win a share of £3 million and help charities like Missing People when the Postcode Millions prize comes to Worcester.

Missing People is just one of many good causes around Great Britain which are supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery – £350 million has been raised for charities to date.

Through players’ support, the charity’s free helpline, 116 000, can be there 24/7 for the thousands of people who go missing in Worcestershire every year.

West Mercia Police receives almost 4,000 reports of a person going missing each year. Missing People is the only charity in the UK dedicated to reuniting missing people and their families. The charity is appealing for a number of individuals who are currently missing in the area, including Vuong Tu, who disappeared from Worcester on 20 February 2016 aged 16, as well as 26-year-old Matthew Bone, who went missing while staying in Callow End on 9 March.

Matthew’s mother Karen Bone, who lives in Portsmouth, said:

“Matthew went missing while staying at Stanbrook Abbey, a long way from our home in Hampshire, and this has made our search even harder. We are therefore appealing to local people in Worcestershire and also appealing to Matt to get in touch with us. Matt, we miss you so much and want to know that you are safe.”

Lucky residents in the postcode sector WR10 3 who play People’s Postcode Lottery will soon find out exactly how much they’ve won at a special prize-giving event.

Tom Smith, Head of Marketing and Communications at Missing People, will be attending the Postcode Millions event to help celebrate with lucky winners and thank them for their support.

Tom said: “Someone in the UK is reported missing every 90 seconds. The families of those left behind are often desperately worried and need to know everything possible is being done to find their loved ones in the hope of bringing them home safe and well.

It’s vital that our helpline is open around the clock, to support them even in the middle of the night whilst they try to make sense of this uniquely isolating experience. Or for those who are away from home themselves, potentially scared and vulnerable, searching for a way to safety.

It’s all thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery that we can be there 24/7 for those that need it most.

“It takes just 3 minutes to sign up to play People’s Postcode Lottery. In that same time, two people will go missing in the UK. We’re enormously grateful to players of People’s Postcode Lottery in Worcester and beyond. They enable us to be on the end of the phone, text and email, for free and 24 hours a day, for missing people and their loved ones. We’re always so pleased when players win life-changing sums of money whilst helping us be a lifeline when someone disappears”.
