Petty Pool Principal Appointed As A Trustee At Nugent
PRINCIPAL and Deputy CEO at Petty Pool Vocational College, Wendy Bowyer, has been appointed as Lead Trustee for Safeguarding at Liverpool-based charity Nugent.
Established for over 140 years, Nugent is an independent registered charity that provides life-changing support to the most vulnerable children, young people, and adults in society, through its network of adult and children’s care homes, independent schools, community, and social work services.
Wendy joined Petty Pool in 2021 where she leads the college team, ensuring continued development and growth. The college currently provides vocational education and life skills for young people with learning disabilities and difficulties in Cheshire. With over 14 years’ experience in education spanning secondary schools, offender learning and the Third Sector, she was responsible for overseeing the provision of SEND across 13 prisons in the Northwest and West Midlands.
As a Peer Inspector for Estyn and having been part of the Welsh Advisory Board creating the SEN code of practice for the Welsh Government in 2019, Wendy is passionate about education for learners with additional needs.
Commenting on her role, Wendy said:
“I was introduced to the CEO Joanne Henney when Nugent came for a visit to Petty Pool last year. It was clear from the first meeting that there was a synergy between the two organisations with many shared values. When the opportunity arose to offer my support to Nugent, I didn’t hesitate to apply. Stepping into the role of Lead Trustee for Safeguarding is not just a responsibility; it’s a commitment to be the voice ensuring the safety and well-being of every child we serve. It will be an honour to support the charity in fulfilling its mission to protect, nurture, and empower those whose voices are often unheard.”
Nugent CEO, Jo Henney said:
“I was delighted that Wendy applied for the position and that Nugent’s Trustees selected her to lead on safeguarding. I look forward to Wendy joining the Board of Trustees and imparting her wealth of knowledge across wider Nugent services, benefitting the people in our care and our colleagues.”
