Primary School children raise money for charity and hear how it is spent
PRIMARY School children in North Shropshire have been busy raising money for charity and learning about what their money can do for others.
Children at Lower Heath CE Primary School and Nursery completed a colour run to raise over £500 to share between three of their chosen charities – they then had a visit from fundraisers to talk about the work of the region’s primary cancer charity.
Helen Knight from Lingen Davies Cancer Fund visited Lower Heath in Prees, near Whitchurch, to thank them for the donation and explain what the charity does to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales.
The headteacher at the school, Helen Reynolds, said:
“We would like to say a huge thank you to Helen from Lingen Davies for coming to Lower Heath to talk to the children.
“It was a fantastic talk that they learnt a lot from – we think it is important for children to know that when they raise money, they are doing it for real people. It helps them put it in perspective and really see and feel the difference they are making.”
Helen Knight said:
“It was a delight to speak to these children and thank them for their donation personally. They should be very proud of themselves for what they have raised, and it was beneficial to be able to tell them where this money will be spent.
“With one in two people affected by cancer in the UK, we felt it was helpful to speak to these pupils about what can be done to improve the lives of anyone affected by it and the work Lingen Davies does in their community and others.”
