Renowned language expert to become Patron of Paces
AN internationally renowned language expert is to become a Patron of Paces, the Sheffield charity and school which supports children, adults and families with cerebral palsy and motor disorders.
Professor Rosemary Varley, from University College London (UCL), will work with the organisation to establish further research into Conductive Education for both children and adults.
Paces is a leader in the leader in the use of Conductive Education, a system of training to support those who have motor disorders learn to overcome the challenges they face and reduce their dependence on artificial aids.
Professor Varley, who is UCL’s Chair of Acquired Disorders of Language Communication, was previously a Trustee of Paces when she worked at the University of Sheffield. She has written numerous articles and papers and is a leading expert in this area of research.
Dr Spencer Pitfield, Chief Executive of Paces Sheffield, told Charity Today:
“We are delighted that Professor Varley has accepted our invitation to become a Patron of Paces.
“I am excited by the opportunities there are from having her insight into language development alongside our pioneering work using Conductive Education, and I am confident they will help children and adults both here and beyond in the future.”
Professor Varley joins the Rt Hon Robert Halfon MP as a Patron of Paces. Mr Halfon, Chair of the Education Select Committee, joined the charity in December 2017.
