Right To Play partners with People’s Postcode Lottery to empower children
THANKS to support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery, global development charity Right To Play has become a new charity partner and will receive regular funding, awarded by Postcode Education Trust. The funds raised by players will help make a life-changing difference to children around the world through the power of play.
Right To Play is a global organisation that uses play to transform the lives of millions of vulnerable children every year in some of the most difficult places on earth. The charity is protecting, educating and empowering children affected by poverty, conflict, disease, displacement, climate change, violence, inequality, prejudice and exploitation.
The funding raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery will support Right To Play programmes across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, helping to ensure that children have access to quality education and receive critical psychosocial support. Last year, the charity reached more than five million children globally.
Gillian McMahon, Executive Director of Right To Play UK, said:
“This support is immensely important and we’re so grateful to Postcode Lottery players. The funding will have a huge, lasting impact on the quality of life of vulnerable children in some of the world’s most challenging places. Through our play-based programmes, we are empowering children to overcome barriers, improving their wellbeing and ensuring they have the essential life skills to build a better future.”
Play is a transformative force in a child’s life and, as global experts in play, Right To Play is providing children with critical life skills, helping them to develop social and emotional skills and improve their learning and holistic well-being.
Globally, more than 244 million children are out of school, and girls in particular often face numerous obstacles (such as early marriage) that prevent them from attending school and claiming their rights. Right To Play’s work promotes gender equality and improves girls’ well-being, ensuring that girls have a voice and can thrive.
Postcode Education Trust is a grant-giving Trust funded entirely by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.
