Round Table Pledges Support to Yorkshire Children’s Charity
A West Yorkshire Round Table has pledged its support to a local children’s charity with a whopping £5000 donation.
The donation, totalling £5,618.03, was awarded to The Principle Trust Children’s Charity which provides respite breaks to children who are underprivileged, disadvantaged, disabled, have life-limiting conditions, or who have experienced poverty, trauma or abuse.
Members of Ilkley Round Table gave the Skipton-based charity their seal of approval after learning of the Trust’s £12,000 fundraising campaign to refurbish two of its accessible holiday lodges on the banks of Lake Windermere.
The five-figure sum will help ensure the disability-friendly lodges are ready for families needing a respite break next Spring and beyond.
Launched in 2011, The Principle Trust Children’s Charity was established by Ilkley businessman Mike Davies, MBE. Since then the Trust has raised over £1m, developed a portfolio of holiday homes and provided respite breaks for almost 5,000 children across the Yorkshire region.
Mr Davies and his son, Andrew – who also lives in Ilkley and is both a trustee and patron of the Trust – attended the Round Table’s latest meeting to thank members for their generous contribution.
Matt Ward, Chairman of Ilkley Round Table said:
“We are delighted to be able to support the work of The Principle Trust as they approach their twelfth year of helping disadvantaged families to escape their everyday troubles and create valuable, happy memories.”
Mr Davies added:
“Thanks to the generosity of Ilkley Round Table members and all The Trust’s supporters, our two accessible holiday lodges are being modernised and improved, ensuring a comfortable and well-equipped home-from-home for hundreds of vulnerable children who will enjoy a respite break with us in the years to come.”
In 2023 the charity launched ‘Food for Families’, a £23,000 per annum initiative to help tackle food poverty by providing an entire week’s supply of food and daily essentials to families taking a respite break provided by The Trust.
