School pupil scores a goal for Camphill MK

A pupil from Milton Keynes infant school Glastonbury Thorn has taken it upon herself to raise funds for local charity Camphill Milton Keynes.

Glastonbury Thorn School encourage their pupils to contribute to the community around them through a number of challenges, one of which is to create their own fundraiser.

Saoirse chose to support charity Camphill MK which works with adults with learning disabilities and autism after she heard about their plans to build new houses so they could almost double the number of individuals they can help. This type of work was important to Saoirse.

Saoirse said:

“My uncle has learning disabilities and has lots of family around him to help, I wanted to help a charity that was close to me in Milton Keynes that helped people like him.”

Entrepreneurial Saoirse decided that she should use her passion for football to raise money. She designed a poster and dropped it to the houses along her street, charging participants 50p to try and get a goal past her. And she raised £56!

Head at Glastonbury Mr Cursley said:

“I am proud of all of the children at GTS as we are a small school with a very big heart! Everything we do is centred around our core values of: honesty, kindness, being sensible, respect and effort. This is why I introduced the GTS Award and the children have been amazing. Saoirse is an excellent example of a GTS citizen and what she has done as part of her award is absolutely amazing. Well done Saoirse!”

Camphill Milton Keynes have a big target to meet after breaking ground on the first of 6 houses. Head of Development Lucy Davies said:

“We love that Saoirse did this for our community. These acts of kindness towards our charity are invaluable to our community. Thank you and well done Saoirse!”
