Sheffield Indian Eatery Forges Partnership to Nourish the Spirits of Isolated Seniors

CULINARY experts, Lavang, join forces with Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care (SCCCC) to extend support to isolated older people in Sheffield.

In an exciting collaboration aimed at making a positive impact on the lives of isolated older individuals in Sheffield, SCCCC is pleased to announce a new partnership with Lavang. Nestled in the heart of Fulwood, Lavang is renowned for its unique and exceptional Indian cuisine experience, offering personalised catering services as well as dining in their restaurant.

SCCCC has been at the forefront of providing care and support to older people in Sheffield, recognising the challenges they face, particularly in isolation. The partnership with Lavang brings together culinary excellence and community care in a meaningful way.

AJ Ali, Co-founder of Lavang, has been an active supporter of older people in his community for years. His personal experiences, including assisting his elderly neighbour with weekly food shopping and extending support to her son, who faced mobility challenges, have fuelled his commitment to making a difference.

To support the ongoing efforts of SCCCC, Lavang’s restaurant has introduced a discretionary charity donation on each customer bill. This initiative allows patrons to contribute directly to SCCCC, enabling the charity to expand its reach and support even more isolated older individuals in Sheffield.

The charity’s Good Neighbour Scheme, a befriending service that sees volunteers visit isolated, older people in their homes for a cuppa and a chat regularly, has seen a huge increase in the number of requests for a friendly visitor.

“Sadly we have over 200 lonely older people waiting for a volunteer, the support from Lavang means we can focus on recruiting more volunteers to help reduce loneliness across Sheffield. We are delighted with the support.”
