South East Londoners invited to World Suicide Prevention Day event
An award-winning mental health service is inviting South East Londoners to join them for a special event on World Suicide Prevention Day to raise awareness and prevent further deaths by suicide.
The online event will include speakers from across mental health care including ThriveLDN and Andy’s Man Club. The final speaker will share their personal experience of losing a loved one to suicide. South London and Maudsley NHS Trust chaplains will then lead a service of remembrance for those lost through suicide.
The event is hosted by South East London Suicide Bereavement service partners: South London and Maudsley NHS Trust, South East London Mind and Mind in Bexley.
Amy Kirk-Smith, Suicide Bereavement Service Manager, explained a little bit about what the service offers:
“We aim to normalise people’s reactions, help them understand what they’re feeling and connect them with others.”
The invitation comes following recent news of the first national increase in suicide rates since 2018.
Rosie Spiegelhalter, South East London Mind’s Director of Development explained:
“It’s important to remember that behind every number is a person. We need people to get the help they need when they need it most.”
