Successful inaugural Heartbeat Quiz Night benefits Guernsey families
RECENTLY, the first-ever Heartbeat Quiz Night hosted by Quizmaster Sean McManus and his team, took place at Les Cotils in Guernsey, bringing local businesses and the community together for a night of fun, competition, and heartfelt generosity.
This remarkable event saw the participation of 18 teams, all vying for a coveted team trophy. The competition was fierce, with teams of all ages demonstrating their knowledge, quick thinking, and camaraderie. The atmosphere was electric as they battled it out for the grand prize.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of trophies. The winning team of Rotarians named ‘Guernesiais Goats’ clinched the main trophy, a testament to their knowledge and teamwork. But it didn’t stop there – individual trophies were also awarded to each of the 6 team members, recognizing their outstanding contributions to the quiz night.
The funds raised will make a huge difference to the families of patients staying at Heartbeat House, whilst their loved ones are having surgery at the Wessex Cardiac Unit in Southampton. Thanks to the remarkable support from their sponsors and the community, the event raised a grand total of £4,790. Each year Heartbeat looks after families from the Bailiwick of Guernsey when they need a place to stay and can call home when they need to be near their loved ones. They could not do this without the generosity of so many.
The Heartbeat Quiz Night was made possible by the generous sponsorship of Investec Guernsey. Mark Renouf and his dedicated team at Investec have been unwavering in their support of Heartbeat, ensuring that families find solace and support when they need it most.
Chair of the Investec Community Donations Committee Amy Le Prevost commented:
“It has been a pleasure for Investec to provide funding to Heartbeat over the last few years, as one of Investec’s most cherished values is that we strive to live in society, not off it. We know how much support Heartbeat provides to Guernsey residents during very difficult times in their lives and we feel privileged to be able to sponsor a room allocated for the use of Bailiwick residents for another year.
“We hope the quiz helped to raise awareness in Guernsey about the valuable work Heartbeat does, and we were pleased that Investec was able to assist in this by providing sponsorship – it was a wonderful event, our teams certainly had a fantastic time (and enjoyed some friendly rivalry)! We look forward to continuing our relationship with Heartbeat and supporting them in their future endeavours, which make such a difference to so many people.”
Donor Development Manager for Heartbeat based in Southampton, Tina Tolley (Aka Tina 2) said that she and Tina Richardson (Aka Tina 1) have made so many friends and gained huge support from so many individuals and companies. They have great relationships with the local TV, radio and Guernsey Press, and they help them to keep their cause visible. Since their very first visit back in November 2019, they have been raising awareness of the support Heartbeat offers to families in Guernsey and they can’t thank their supporters in the Bailiwick of Guernsey enough. The inaugural Heartbeat Quiz Night was a resounding success, uniting the community in the spirit of giving, competition, and care. The night was a testament to the power of collective goodwill and the unwavering support Heartbeat continues to receive. Next year’s event will be on Thursday the 7th of November 2024.
Heartbeat will be holding a Carol Service, hosted and supported by Rev’d Daniel Foot and his wonderful team at St Martin’s Parish Church on the 14th of December 2023. Heartbeat looks forward to welcoming one and all.
