Surrey care home residents enjoy free summer tea party with war era live music
LOCAL Freemasons have organised and gifted a wonderful summer garden party, for the residents, families, and staff of Shannon Court Care Home in Surrey.
Helped by the beautifully warm Sunday sun, the residents and many friends of Shannon Court enjoyed strawberries and cream, tea and cakes, whilst listening to the big band sound of The Satin Dollz Trio, who captivated their audience with song and dance routines from a bygone age. Cold Pimm’s and ice-cold beers were additional ‘icing-on-the-cake’ to help everyone stay cool in the hot summer sun.
The Satin Dollz songs included old classics from the thirties and forties and will likely have triggered many nostalgic memories for the elderly residents.
The event was organised by the Association of the Friends of Shannon Court, which was formed in 1994 by a group of local Freemasons to raise and provide additional funds for the comfort and benefit of the residents, as well as the general upkeep of Shannon Court Care Home.
This event was great fun and an absolute delight to attend. It was also uplifting to hear such wonderful harmonies and live music, see people laughing and dancing, and have multiple generations of families enjoying themselves together.
The event was officially opened by Ian Chandler, Head of Surrey Freemasons, who said:
“It is heart-warming to see local Freemasons coming together to provide community events like this, with the simple purpose of giving back and helping others.”
The £6,000 cost of staging Sunday’s garden party, with free entry, plus complimentary food and entertainment, was donated by the Friends of Shannon Court.
Shannon Court Care Home is a beautifully renovated Edwardian country home, situated in the picturesque village of Hindhead near Guildford. It provides residential care and residential dementia support for up to 53 residents with permanent care or short-stay respite breaks.
