Swing Spectacular returns to raise money for local homelessness charity
After sold out events in 2016 and 2017, Lydia Bell and the Sweeting Swing Band are back with a night of unmissable swing entertainment at the Moot Hall in Colchester Town Hall to raise money for local homelessness charity Emmaus Colchester.
All profits from this year’s Swing Spectacular, which takes place on Saturday 5 May at 7:30pm, will be donated to Emmaus Colchester. The local charity provides a home and meaningful work for up to 31companions who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.
The event, which is sponsored by vintage clothing shop Vivien of Holloway, will feature a live band, as well as swing dance lessons, performances from The Seaside Stompers, a speakeasy-style cocktail bar, vintage photo booth and other vintage inspired activities. In 2017, The Swing Spectacular raised over £700 for the Colchester based charity.
Singer Lydia Bell, who organised the event, said: “I am delighted to be presenting The Swing Spectacular as an annual event, and intend to support Emmaus as long as it remains in Colchester. Helping a charity in the town that I grew up in is very important to me and the perfect opportunity to give back to the community and those in need.”
“I am primarily a singer and a musician, but if I can raise money for an important cause while I do the thing that I love, then I know I am doing my best.”
“This is a night for everyone, and swing-era dress is strongly encouraged. There will be seating available for those with dancing shoes that don’t quite fit anymore, or who would rather just enjoy the entertainment.”
Gintare Petrauskaite, Community Manager at Emmaus Colchester, said: “We are extremely fortunate to have had the support of Lydia and her musical talent over the past few years. The time and commitment that she puts into The Swing Spectacular is remarkable and we are overwhelmed by the generosity of all involved. On behalf of Emmaus Colchester I would like to thank Lydia and everyone else who has helped to organise such a fantastic event.”
Tickets for The Swing Spectacular are available at www.theswingspectacular.com/tickets or the Mercury Theatre Box Office in Colchester in person or by calling 01206 573948.
