The Health Lottery celebrated local heroes on National Thank You Day
RECENTLY the nation marked National Thank You Day, a special occasion that unites millions of people across the UK in celebration and gratitude for those who go above and beyond for their communities. This day shines a spotlight on the unsung heroes in our neighbourhoods – the volunteers, teachers, carers, and local legends who tirelessly support and uplift others.
Thanks to players of The Health Lottery, £132 million has been raised for good causes, funding grants for thousands of small charities performing vital work at a local level. These funds support the health and well-being of people living in some of the most disadvantaged communities in Great Britain.
Carly Troullis of The Health Lottery said:
“We are incredibly proud of the difference that our players have made. The money raised has gone on to support numerous brilliant charities across Scotland, Wales, and England, tackling loneliness, building communities, supporting disabilities, and helping people of all ages stay active and creative. Learning about these projects and the positive impact they have on people’s lives is a privilege, and we hope it inspires others to continue their support.”
Some of the remarkable organisations supported include Stereo Hype Social in Birmingham, which fosters community spirit through creative activities. We Are Music in Harwich, Essex, deliver essential music sessions that bring joy and connection. Cymer Afan Community Library in Wales provides invaluable resources and community space.
Artistic Spectrum in Thorne, South Yorkshire, offer creative outlets for individuals with autism whilst Finding Your Feet founded by Cor Hutton is Scotland’s leading amputee charity, offering support and activities for amputees. And JaZanne Arts in north London, is where volunteers like Hyacinth, 79, and Mo, 85, bring joy to those living with dementia through their dedicated efforts.
National Thank You Day is a moment to reflect on the tremendous impact these local heroes have on our communities and to express our gratitude for their dedication.
Let’s continue to support and thank those who go the extra mile to make our world a better place.
