THE MINTRIDGE FOUNDATION: September update
THE MINTRIDGE FOUNDATION: September update
THE Mintridge Foundation has had a busy start to September and has welcomed the start of a new academic year. At the start of September, The Mintridge Foundation has been leading a variety of programmes across the country, including Bronze pre-season programmes in schools and clubs, and leading sports awards evenings to celebrate sporting achievement.
Some of our most recent programmes include two netball programmes delivered by our Commonwealth gold medallist, Eboni Beckford – Chambers at Oakwood Netball Club and The Netball League. The young ladies and women at both clubs were so excited to meet Eboni and be inspired by her story. They worked extremely hard on the day and had a fantastic day picking up top tips from our England Roses defender. As well as these two programmes, Gordon’s School kick-started their pre-season training schedule by inviting Surrey Storm defender, Jo Trip to deliver a pre-season netball programme. The girls at the school were extremely talented, so we look forward to hearing how they get on in their next netball season. Our athletics Ambassador Marilyn Okoro delivered a Bronze Sports Awards programme at Princess Helena College, during the first week of September. It was a huge success and incredibly relevant to the students and staff attending the evening. Overall, in the first 10 days of September, The Mintridge Foundation has reached more than 200 young people, who we have hopefully inspired and motivated on their own personal journeys.
The rest of September brings a whole host of days and exciting programmes, that we will deliver across the country. We are looking forward to taking our fantastic Ambassadors to numerous sports awards evenings, conferences, Gold programme fixtures and netball programme days.
The Mintridge Foundation has also been doing some work in the city this month. Team Mintridge went along to the centre of Canary Wharf, on a busy Thursday, to help support The Whale of a Time Row ladies on their venture towards rowing the Atlantic in December. It was a hugely successful day of fundraising and a great way to raise awareness for the row, and the great things The Mintridge Foundation are doing across the country.
As a follow on from our previous article, we have more good news from our incredible Ambassadors. Laura Sugar our T44 100m and 200m sprinter, won two bronze medals and a gold medal at the most recent IPC Athletics European Championships, in both individual and team races. This month has also seen our endurance cyclist James Golding complete the gruelling 8-day Tour of Britain cycling challenge. Finally, Kristian Callaghan, our target shooter is competing at the World Championships this month where we wish him luck in all his matches.
This month we have also welcomed three new Ambassadors to Team Mintridge! Hannah Diamond is our new sailing Ambassador, she has an excellent record with the British Sailing team and is a world championship silver medallist. Grace Harrison has also joined the Mintridge team as our Gymnastics Ambassador. Grace is an ex-international gymnast and Commonwealth Games finalist. Finally, Justine Lucas is joining The Mintridge Foundation. Justine is a current Loughborough Lightning and England Rugby Union player. She is a World Cup 2017 finalist and a 6 Nations Grand Slam winner. All three ladies are fantastic additions to the Mintridge team and have excellent inspirational stories to tell. If you would like Hannah, Grace, Justine or any of our motivational Ambassadors to visit your school, group or club, then please visit our website, or contact The Mintridge Foundation:
