Tom’s Trust spread Christmas cheer to children in hospital

FROM superhero capes to books and cuddly soft toys, children were treated to some wonderful gifts from Tom’s Trust while spending time in hospital over the Christmas period.

The charity’s psychology team in Newcastle organised the presents for children who were being treated at the Great North Children’s Hospital over the festive season, including children Tom’s Trust directly supports as well as other children with cancer.

Debs Mitchell, Co-founder of Tom’s Trust, said:

“We want to say a big thanks to Tesco, as well as their customers who voted for us to receive a generous grant from the company. Because of them, we were able to brighten up the Christmas period for so many children who received so many wonderful presents. We’d also like to thank Tom’s Trust psychologist, Sarah Verity, for organising the gifts for us.”

Sarah Verity, Paediatric Neuropsychologist, said:

“Tom’s Trust has raised funds for us to provide a Christmas gift to all the children that come to our outpatient clinics in the last two weeks of December.

“This is the third year that Tom’s Trust has managed to do this, and we are so grateful. I cannot describe the look of happiness of a four-year-old who, having faced a dull three-hour stay in a busy outpatient department, was now busily being a range of superheroes in his new dressing-up sets.

“This year we bought books for the toddlers and older patients, and superhero dressing-up sets and soft toys for the smaller children. They went down an absolute hit with the children. Lots and lots of happy faces! Thank you to Tom’s Trust and its funding partners. This made such a difference to children with cancer before Christmas.”
