Unique Ways to Make Charitable Donations
Unique Ways to Make Charitable Donations
THERE are lots of fantastic ways to donate money to charity, from running marathons to jumping out of planes. But there are some more unique ways to give money to a charity that you might not be aware of.
These allow you to give money to a worthy cause without doing a crazy activity or something you might not be able to do due to health — such as running or participating in a group sport.
Check out the list below to find out how reclaiming PPI or planning your wedding could make for a generous donation to charity.
Reverse Advent Calendar
This one is perfect for this time of year, with advent calendars already creeping into supermarkets and shops. Some calendars can be very elaborate, offering alcohol or a small gift every day until Christmas arrives. But instead of receiving gifts or chocolate in the lead up to Christmas, why not give something to charity?
Many people have started to create reverse advent calendars — collecting a food item each day and donating all of the items to a food bank at Christmas. Alternatively, save £1, £2 or more during each day of advent and donate it to a charity of your choice. One charity received 200 reverse advent calendars one year, which made a huge difference to the cause.
Wedding Favours
Weddings are an expensive time for a couple. Rather than spending a large budget on a wedding, many couples are now opting to give some of their wedding budgets to charity. This might involve asking for charitable donations from guests instead of gifts. Another popular choice is giving charitable wedding favours. Many larger charities supply wedding favours, such as a brooch or bracelet, in exchange for a donation. This enables guests to receive a gift at the wedding, while the charity also receives a donation.
Making a PPI Claim
Consumers now have just ten months to make a PPI refund to their bank. The Financial Conduct Authority has set 29th August 2019 as the official deadline for making all claims. The average refund amount is £1,700. Receiving this amount of money can be hugely beneficial for many households, but donating this money to charity can also make a huge difference. When you receive your money, you can donate it to a charity of your choice. You can reclaim PPI yourself or use a reputable claims management company, which will find PPI and make a claim on your behalf for a small fee.
Dry January Month
During January and other months of the year, we are encouraged to give up a habit for the month. “Dry” January encourages people to take a month off alcohol, while “Stoptober” is aimed at those wishing to give up smoking.
As well as the health benefits of stopping smoking and cutting out booze, you can save a lot of money by reducing — or completely eliminating — these habits. If you plan on giving something up, consider donating the money you save — or raise if you’re being sponsored — to your favourite charity to support them instead.
Whether it’s easier for you to collect food during advent, make a PPI claim or incorporate charity favours into your wedding — there are plenty of ways to donate money to worthy causes.
