Volunteer powers through to raise £2100 in Edinburgh Marathon
SOS Silence of Suicide (SOS), a leading mental health charity, has expressed its deepest appreciation to volunteer frontliner Finlay for his outstanding fundraising efforts.
Finlay’s dedication and commitment to the cause have resulted in an impressive donation of £2100 to support the charity’s vital work.
Finlay’s decision to raise funds for SOS was inspired by the profound impact the charity has on the lives of those in need. Having witnessed firsthand the positive influence of the organisation’s services, Finlay chose to run for the charity following the tragic loss of his sister to suicide a few years ago. His personal connection to the cause fueled his determination to raise awareness and support those struggling with mental health challenges.
Despite facing physical and mental challenges during the marathon, including adverse weather conditions and the gruelling final miles, Finlay persevered with unwavering resolve. The overwhelming support from spectators and the community propelled him forward, ultimately crossing the finish line in an impressive time of 4 hours and 6 minutes.
Finlay’s fundraising efforts exceeded all expectations, surpassing his initial target of £300 set just two weeks before the run. His remarkable achievement is a testament to his passion for the cause and the generosity of those who believed in his mission.
In his own words, Finlay shared:
“My advice to others would be to voluntarily take yourself outside your comfort zone every now and again, especially if it’s for a good cause like SOS Silence of Suicide.”
SOS Team said:
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to Finlay Young for his remarkable dedication and generosity in supporting the charity’s mission to provide vital mental health support and raise awareness about suicide prevention”.
